Bio / CV
Driven to create through necessity, Asanté's work straddles cultural history and personal memory with a focus on material sustainability. He looks to engage viewers through multi-sensory activation and installations. Their pieces are designed to foster changes in the audiences' conditioned responses using material and conceptual play. Asanté uses design processes to create work that is adaptable and approachable.
Asanté's growth arises through their exploration and expansion of blackness, imposed gender and queerness. These factors lead the artist to create works that examine societal conditions of hegemony which are erased or hyper-visualized then critiqued. As the audience moves through installations they are greeted with approaches that bridge gaps between haptic and cerebral presentations through material contrasts. Where musicians create frisson to create sonic depth: Asanté utilizes textures, scent and color to establish mood and theme. Additionally, Asanté is eager to create pieces that envision the utility of waste; in doing so, Asanté hopes to inspire the viewer to utilize their own waste creatively through alternative approaches.
