Biography
I am driven to create through necessity. Where visual art attaches itself to the eye, I look to expand its engagement through multi sensory activation. My pieces are designed to foster changes in the audiences' conditioned responses to Fine Art through material and conceptual play. I look to the design process to create work that is adaptable and approachable, so the viewer may be more inclined to physically interact with the object(s) or space.
My growth as an individual arises through my blackness, imposed gender and queerness. These factors lead me to create works where societal conditions of hegemony are erased or hyper-visualized then critiqued. As the audience moves through installations they are greeted with approaches that are an attempt to bridge gaps between haptic and cerebral presentations through material contrasts. Where musicians create frisson to create sonic depth, I rely on textures and scent to establish mood and theme. Additionally, I am eager to create pieces that revision the utility of waste; in doing so, I hope to inspire the viewer to utilize their own waste creatively.
